Know How Weight Loss Effects on Hormones

02:33 - By Brian Adam 0

Globally obesity amounts have raised since 2008, as per a survey released in the February 2011 concern of the British medical journal "The Lancet." Overweight raises the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers. Overweight can also result in hormonal disorders. Weight loss might help reverse these disorders, but rapid or too much weight loss may also cause hormonal disorder.

Hormones
Hormones are built in a special group of cells called the endocrine glands. They proceed in the bloodstream to cells and internal organs and influence various body procedures such as metabolism, sexual function, birth, growth and improvement and mood.

Insulin
Eating too much, especially excess intake of refined and simple carbohydrates may lead to regular insulin surges, which leads to excessive fat storage and weight gain. Insulin insensitivity and diabetic issues might also occur. Weight loss might remove insulin insensitivity and normalize insulin secretion, as per a study by the Department of Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproduction at University Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, disclosed in the November 1996 issue of "Human Reproduction."

Female Hormones
Overweight or weight gain in most women can lead to hormonal irregularities, which can cause infertility and menstrual aberration. The Heidelberg research investigated 58 overweight pre-menopausal women, most of whom were infertile and had hormonal and menstrual disorders. Of those 58, 35 of the women volunteered for a weight loss routine. Hormone and estradiol levels normalized and menstrual work improved in 80 % of the women. Too much weight loss in women can result in disruption or cessation of menstrual cycles.

Male Hormones
Fast weight loss may decrease testosterone levels in younger athletic males based on a study in the November 2008 concern of the "Journal of International Sports Medicine." Testosterone stages decline as men age and old men may grow gynecomastia, or breast enlargement, and extra tummy fat. Amounts of the female hormone estrogen also increase. Weight loss can help decrease estrogen levels and breast enhancement.
